Dolphin spotting in Bray harbour, last Saturday

So, I'd been to the African market on the Seafront (see my earlier entry about that), and now I was heading to the harbour, to finish my chips there. I love the peace and quiet..

(Click on the first photos to browse them all on flickr.. I'm only blogging some of them..)

I mainly had the pier to myself, except for the odd dog walker and such.. And all the dogs were interested in my bag as it smelled of chips! LOL

I was watching the boats.. Some people were learning to sail, nearby..

Suddenly, I saw something surprising, and instantly remembered hearing about dolphins in the area.. =D And that was them! Showing off around the boats!

I can't help it.. The mindPlayer will play the theme from Jaws, as I look at those approaching fins.. Luckily, these were just dolphins, though!

"Hey, we have an audience!"

It took loads of snaps to get my best shot (above) - I've cropped it further, to get just the dolphin (below).

This picture helped me google the species; bottlenose dolphin. Apparently, harbour porpoise would be a more likeable spotting around this coast, but these were definitely bottlenose dolphins. I've reported the sighting to the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, via the form on their website. (I'm sure they are well aware of these particular dolphins, but they still seem to want reports..)

This was definitely the best moment of Saturday, although it was a pretty good day in general. I'd never seen dolphins in the wild, so it was awesome to see them, and to even get some photos of them..

The kayakers arrived a bit late, for dolphin spotting =/

I was going to two gigs, later that day, so I went home to clear the memory card and boost my camera battery after all that zooming.. (Below, Holy Redeemer Church, pictured from the harbour.)
