African market on Bray Seafront, on Saturday (etc.)
Saturday was the 'African Day' of Bray Summerfest, but the weather happened to be quite depressing =/ It was mostly cloudy, with occasional drizzle and showers. Anyway, I had my waterproof jacket on, so I headed to the Seafront - for the first of three times, that day..
I assumed that there'd be food on the African market, so I didn't have any breakfast at home. However, when I saw the tiny row of market huts as I walked by on Strand Road, it didn't look like there'd be much else than clothing and such.. So, being hungry, I decided to walk on and get a cheeseburger and chips from my favourite little take away, and eat them on the promenade before going to check out the African market.
Snapping pics while waiting.. (They take your order and money first, and then they cook whatever you ordered while you wait - it's all freshly made and gorgeous..)
I got my food, went to the promenade, sat down, and didn't it start raining just then.. Jeez.. Luckily, the shelter with seats was nearby, so I went there to have my late breakfast. I hope I didn't make everyone else there really hungry, heh..
Finally, to the African market.. The first hut had lovely African clothing - I love the colours and patterns.. They also had bead jewellery and decorative stuff. Apparently, it was all from here and there, so probably not from just one African country. It was their first time selling on any market, so it was very unfortunate that the weather was keeping people away =(
The next hut would have had - FOOD! :O It was just so unnoticeable until you got closer to the hut, since they just had the basic hut and a few stainless steel dishes where the food was being kept hot under the lids.. I was just after having a cheeseburger, and had barely touched my chips, so I was way too stuffed to eat anything else. What a shame!
The next hut had mainly clothing and jewellery from Ghana.
The last hut had Senegalese stuff, and the colourful person selling the stuff was from Cork, and originally from Germany. We were yapping for a good while, and I bought a little drum that could end up in my dollhouse.. We met again later, at Oleku Band gig, but more about that gig when I've uploaded the pictures..
Eventually, I was heading home, but decided to go to the harbour first, to finish the chips I hadn't eaten before.. That was a lucky decision as I ended up seeing some dolphins, and got photos of them, too! I already blogged one picture, but I'll blog more, later..
