O11: [not happy with today's cat food..]

2 x tiny Moleskine..

I was hoping to buy the same version of Moleskine than I had for 2009 (linked here), but Dubray Books in Bray had none, Eason in Dún Laoghaire only had a few other sizes, Hughes and Hughes had a slightly bigger selection, but not the size I was looking for (I was even ready to get it in red, but they just didn't have that size at all - the closest was the weekly diary in black, with hard covers). At H and H, I looked at some other similar size diaries, but there was just nothing I wanted as much as the Moleskine, so I decided to wait and think about it.. I'd given up, but then we happened to visit a few other shops in the D.L. shopping centre, and I decided to have a look in the small Dubray Books there.. Well, they didn't have the size I wanted, either, BUT, they had the best Moleskine selection, and I eventually got the pocket size version of the daily planner;

Basically, it's just like the larger version I wanted, but just about 50% of the size of it. I am disappointed as I really, really wanted to have identical diaries for every year (after finding such a perfect diary, in the first place..), but at least this is better than no Moleskine at all.. Also, since the diary was so small, and it was D's Christmas present for me (I'd wished for it, but wanted to go and pick the right one myself, which is why we only got it now), I also got the pocket size Japanese Album;

Khwaja Mere Khwaja (from Jodhaa Akbar)

This is becoming a music video blog.. :o ... Anyway, I'm just semi-watching Jodhaa Akbar on C4 (I've seen it before), and I had to find Khwaja Mere Khwaja as I really love that song;

Here's the youtube link.

One of my favourite tracks ever

I have loved this track for about 15 years now, for many reasons! It's total comfort music for me.. Also, it'll always take me back to a certain moment in mid-90's - not a special moment as such, just a nice day and a peaceful moment, when I was listening to this at home (which was in Helsinki, at the time), and I just KNEW that the same track would remind me of that moment, in the future. And so it does.

Where's my Moleskine? Where's my Moleskine?

12 months - Daily Planner - Black soft cover - Large
(The title is supposed to be chanted like "Where's my burrito?", by Homer Simpson..)

I was supposed to get a new Moleskine for Christmas, and we planned to go and buy it together as I wanted to pick the same version that I had for 2009, but then I got a chest infection, and didn't really leave the house at all until the other day, when we just bought some food and went for a spin. So, it's now 10th January, and I still don't have a Moleskine for 2010. The year is already ruined as I wanted to write something everyday. Fuck. (I still want my burr Moleskine, though..)

Mince pies

Mince pie with cream
I'd never known mince pies until I moved to Ireland, back in '97. (For those who don't know mince pies, check them out on Wikipedia - they're something you'd have around Christmas time..)

I didn't dislike them, but I didn't immediately fall in love with them, either. I loved the cream, though.. (Mmmm.. cream...) However, Christmas after Christmas, I seemed to grow to like them more, and I remember actually loving them, at some point, and usually having them without cream - not because I preferred them that way, but we'd just often forget to buy the cream, or we'd buy it and treat ourselves with creamy coffees until there was none left to go with the mince pies.

Then, a few years ago, I just sort of went off mince pies, for no particular reason. We'd always have them at Christmas time, but I had a few years when I didn't eat any of them. Or, I might have one, but not really enjoy it.

This Christmas season, I noticed that I like mince pies again, and I've had them all with cream =D Yum.. (Yes, I'm just after having one now..)

We've been buying Gateaux and Dunnes mince pies, and I've liked them both. Previously, we've often bought the Cuisine de France mince pies, and I have to say that I'm not really a fan of them.. I love their apple pies, but that dough doesn't seem to go with mince pies, I think.. I'm really just blogging about this to remind myself, come December, that Gateaux and Dunnes mince pies are it, for me =)

Grey Gardens, and Grey Gardens

The other night, I watched Grey Gardens, the movie. I didn't know much about it, but vaguely remembered reading something about the eccentric Edith Bouvier Beales (the two of them..), years and years ago..

What a fascinating story! And somehow very sad as well, although they didn't necessarily find it a sad life, even if it would have seemed sad to other (saner..) people.

Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange were awesome, and I couldn't believe the brilliant makeup effects! :O I have never before seen so authentic looking fake old people..

There was a bizarre twist, after the movie.. I was channel-hopping, and happened to land on another channel, which was showing Grey Gardens, the documentary! So, I could compare the movie characters to the real people, immediately after watching the movie. That made the acting seem even better.
