Mama's big boy..
I had this photo on Facebook, but I only uploaded it to Flickr a few hours ago..
This was taken on 23rd August 2012, when Oimo had already had his post-steroids "miracle cure", which gave us that extra year..
He is SO himself, in this picture! I just wanted to blog this as looking at him in this photo, almost makes me feel like I'm with him again..
He was so intelligent, so interested in everything.. He was much more intelligent than most people I have ever met. He was always exploring things, trying to figure out how everything worked - often successfully.. He would get frustrated with not having thumbs, and not being able to communicate with a human language..
It's so hard to accept that he's not here anymore..

So many things will never be the same..
I miss Oimo sleeping on my lap, licking the inside of my arm, then putting his nose against the moist spot, and sleeping again.. I think it somehow reminded him of being a kitten..
I miss sharing my food with Oimo..
I miss seeing Oimo destroy Emma's antenna.. Dr-r-r-r-r!
I miss Oimo assisting with crafts, etc..
I miss our Vulcan Mind Meld moments..
I miss going to the kitchen at night, or early in the morning, to discover that someone had been bold again, and left the fridge door wide open.. Maybe some sausages on the floor, or a whole chicken..
I miss my little Kitchen Inspector..
I miss the rare moments when Thatsit would allow Oimo to sort of play with her - until she'd have a hissy fit..
I miss Oimo playing in the garden..
I miss Oimo ruling the neighbourhood..
And a million other things, with Oimo..
Ginga and Oimo in the garden.. Ginga and Oimo are now forever sleeping in that same garden, and it's nice to know that they can stay in a place where they always liked to play. I so miss them both!

RIP Oimouttahere ( 29/4/1998 - 27/5/2013 )
Oimo was unable to get comfortable enough to sleep, last night, so we decided to call for the vet, first thing in the morning..
Oimo was put to sleep at home, and I held him and whispered to him as he went to sleep for the last time.. As sad as it was, it was a huge relief for him to get free from pain, and for me to feel him finally relax..
As Oimo was our "Batman" (due to his alert ears), I gave him the Italian crochet Batman finger puppet, with a long letter, and some of Mama's hair - he always tried to eat my hair, ever since he was a kitten.. I cut a little bit of his hair for me to keep..
While D dug a grave in the rainy back garden, I cleaned Oimo's face, wrapped him in two soft pillow cases (hugging his letter and Batman), and held him for one last time..
He's buried under the red fuchsia flower, near Jen's plant..
I want to plant some pretty flowers on his grave..
Fly free, my Biggins..
My Batman, My Biggins..
Oimo & Mama - Vulcan Mind Meld, June 2010 |
It's been over a year now, since Oimo got his first "death sentence" (30th April 2012 entry about it), when it was discovered that he had a tumour in the abdomen, and it seemed that his kidneys were failing..
Some time after that, everyone really thought that it was going to be over for Oimo, but then he was given some steroids, mainly to just give us maybe a few more days together, to say goodbye.. and miraculously, he started to get better! (It did even surprise the vet!)
This time, I'm afraid there's not going to be another miracle.. (Note to God; Feel free to prove me wrong, though - I'd be happy to preach it from the rooftops..)
The tumour has been growing, and although it must have caused him some discomfort in general, he has still been able to enjoy life, jump on cars and tables to enjoy sunny spots, love his food, treats, and cuddles.. Do a happy trot across the lawn, after a successful "#2"...
But there was a sudden change, on Friday evening..
I just knew that this was going to be Oimo's last weekend, and I wasn't even sure if he was going to make it through the weekend.. But he did, and sometime today, there will be a vet visit, and Oimo will finally get to rest forever, free from all pain and discomfort..

My 7h morning spin, yesterday
First part: from Bray to Glenmalure
Yesterday morning was quite dull, but I still wanted to go for a spin. So, I left home at 7am, and drove to Glenmalure.
It was too cold to dip my toes in the water..
I needed a "maintenance break".. (Read: bush pee.. lol..)
My car snack box.. I'd made a sambo at home =) I ate a half of it here, then forgot to eat the other half until later, when I was back home already!
Second part: from Glenmalure to Sally Gap (and some)
Some idiot attempted to kill me and themself, by driving some SUV type thing, really fast on the wrong side of the road, soon after Laragh (I was heading to Glenmacnass). It wasn't a tourist..
Glenmacnass was sunny and cold, but the mountains looked kind of depressing, weatherwise! I was thinking, do I really want to drive into that, or should I just turn back to Laragh.. But I decided to go on..
Well.. For most of the old military road between Glenmacnass and Sally Gap, the clouds were hanging really low, but not too low to ruin visibility. However, getting closer to Sally Gap, things changed, and I could hardly see the road anymore. I knew there was a place to stop, soon after Sally Gap (I was heading to Glencree), so I made it there, and just parked there for a while. It was already clearing a bit, when I took these snaps.
I also made the first of my little videos there - I'm posting it below, but I've combined all my videos from yesterday, so if you'd rather want to read about it first, keep scrolling down, and then come back to watch the video =) I'll remind you about it, in the end of this entry!
I had a cappuccino and chocolate cake, at my favourite coffee shop - Armoury Cafe, in Glencree.
That used to be my favourite chocolate cake, but unfortunately, it's too chocolaty for me now =/ I had to leave some as I just couldn't eat it. (Nothing wrong with the cake, I just went off chocolate in 2011.. If anyone likes chocolate, I'm pretty sure that they will love that cake!) I can eat chocolate in some cakes, but it seems that my previous favourite is too rich now.
I drove back to Sally Gap as I didn't want to go home yet, and there's nothing interesting in the other direction..
Above, two pictures of the same spot where I waited for the clouds to clear, earlier on. It had already cleared a lot, but as you can see, the clouds were still quite low.
Just a quick stop at Lough Tay..
Third part: Sally Gap - Glencree - Sally Gap - Roundwood Reservoir
(almost forgot to post this route map..)
I really meant to just stop at Roundwood Reservoir for a moment, to think about where to go next, but the weather had improved so much, that I just had to go for a little walk..
Although it was sunny and gorgeous, it was still quite cold in any breezy spots, and I definitely needed my coat.. However, this meadow near the overflow hole, is usually sheltered from breeze, and I felt so SUMMERY! =D I just wanted to take a nap right there, enjoying the sun, but I didn't as then it would have been a pain to get up and drive home..
I love the coconut scent of the gorse flowers.. I actually use coconut oil for moisturiser, and smelling it always reminds me of gorse flowers!
Esmeralda was parked behind that gate wall, above..
Might have photoshopped that, just a little bit ;)
Fourth part: from Roundwood Reservoir to Newtownmountkennedy, Newcastle, Kilcoole, Delgany, Greystones (shopping), and Bray
I'd actually meant to sit in the car for a while (at Roundwood Reservoir), trying to think of some other places where I might still go, but someone was just arriving, and sort of waited for my spot as he could see I was just returning to my car. So, I couldn't really stay as there's not much room there for parking. I just drove to Newtownmountkennedy and Newcastle, then drove to Greystones through Kilcoole and Delgany as I'd decided to do my shopping as well.
I bought three Schleich kitties at the arts & crafts shop, a pretty sympathy card at the newsagents (my late dad's second cousin has died - he was the only relative in my dad's funeral in 2008, other than myself), and LIDL foodies. Then I drove home. It was 2pm when I came home.
(PS, if you didn't watch that video yet, don't forget to scroll up and watch it now..)
I'm still sort of avoiding the handbrake, except when parking.....
